Reconciled – Praise God!

Sacrament of Reconciliation

I did tear up even though I had told myself that I wouldn’t - Joshua sitting on a chair all solemn and serious, kind Fr. Z looking on, nodding while he told him his sins; I couldn’t help it, my throat was thick with emotion. Here was my little one, who I seem to have held in my arms just yesterday taking another big step in his sacramental life. The last sacrament he had received was when he was 2 months old – how time flies. Step by step he is getting ready to receive Jesus. The service was so lovely with the children’s choir singing beautiful hymns, and all the parents and relatives all dressed up. It was solemn too, with a row of 6 priests waiting to hear confession. I remembered how terrified I was at my confession many moons ago, compared to that this was a piece of cake.

Fr. W told the story of the prodigal son to the kids who gathered on the floor in front of the altar. He had really funny props and of course some of the answers to his questions were typical – saucy and cute.

After Joshua finished confession, he knelt down and said his prayer of sorrow. The priest gave a final blessing and asked each kid to hug his parents. It was very very cute. I’m sure Jesus was all smiles that day. Oh, can’t wait until communion!!!!
